“If you are going to San Francisco, be sure to wear flowers in your hair…”

by Tokyo Terrace on June 11, 2009

Steve McKenzie’s lyrics circled around my head throughout our 4 day trip to San Francisco. I can honestly say that this trip was everything I’d hoped it would be and more.

The weather: perfect. The food: delicious. The wine: spectacular. The company… well, obviously wonderful since I spent the whole time with my loving ( and occasionally obnoxious) hubby. When all of these factors come together in one vacation, you’ve hit the jackpot. We certainly did. Many thanks to Giao from kissmyspatula and the White on Rice Couple for their great suggestions!

We arrived in San Francisco at 9:30am after a 9 hour flight from Tokyo. In an attempt to get our bodies on U.S. time as soon as possible, we dropped our luggage at the hotel and went out immediately to see the sights. We had the entire day in front of us. Somehow, we made it through without completely collapsing from exhaustion.

Our first destination was the Fisherman’s Wharf. It was a fabulous place to be on a mild, sunny day. We grabbed a Starbuck’s and headed for the cable car stop. I tried to get on the cable car still carrying my Starbuck’s, but was given the heev-ho. Oh well. I had to finish my coffee- there was no question about that. So, we waited for the next available car.

Once we arrived at Fisherman’s Wharf, we wandered around taking in the sights and smells of the bay. Eventually, we stopped at Boudin Bakery and ordered clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl along with an Anchor Steam Porter. Smooth, creamy, comforting. It was the perfect après travel meal!

After devouring our delicious lunch, in our jet-lagged stupor, we accidentally stumbled upon Pier 39 and some amazing sea lions.

Next, we found a stand selling gigantic strawberries! I had to buy some…so I did. They were glorious.

The final stop was at Ghiradelli Square for a hot fudge sundae! Delicious and chocolatey! Mmmmmm…

The rest of the day was relatively low-key. We worked on recovering from our flight and tried to get some rest so we could fully enjoy the days ahead!

hi rachael! oh, i’m SO SO happy and delighted to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed your visit to the city by the bay. it’s hard not to fall in love with the place, isn’t it? i can’t wait to see the rest of your posts and hear about all about your adventures and explorations. have a safe flight back to japan – or if you’re already back, hope you’re recovering well from the jet lag.

so, i have to ask, did you leave your heart in san francisco? :)

Sounds and looks like you are having a good time. If you rented a car, you should head up to Twin Peaks and get a fantastic view of the City, or Coit Tower, but you can walk to that one. So much to see and do, and of course eat.
